RockSolid Money™ Features

The complete feature list, by area of the application.

RockSolid Money is a desktop personal finance application for Windows, launching July 31, 2026. The list below describes the feature set as built; availability by edition is noted in the edition comparison at the end of this page.

Importing

Import

File Formats

CSV and TSV from banks, credit cards, and brokerages, plus OFX, QFX, and QIF. Files that cannot be recognized are quarantined and explained rather than partially parsed.

Detection

Format Detection

For an unrecognized file, the app proposes a column mapping from the header names and the shape of the data, then shows a sample of rows interpreted under that mapping before anything is recorded.

Verification

Balance Verification

Where a file carries a running balance, the sign convention is proven arithmetically against it rather than guessed. If the arithmetic cannot decide, the app asks in plain language instead of assuming.

Dates

Date Interpretation

Day/month order is determined from the data itself. A single unambiguous value in a column settles the order for the whole column; only a genuinely ambiguous column prompts, showing real calendar dates rather than format strings.

Profiles

Institution Profiles

Profiles for major US banks and card issuers ship with the app. Confirm a format once and later files from that institution import against the saved profile. Editing a confirmed profile stops it auto-applying until you confirm it again.

Import history

Import History

Every import is recorded with the file it came from and the changes it made. Commits are atomic and can be rolled back, and the original file is preserved unchanged.

Accounts and Transactions

Checking

Cash and Banking

Checking, savings, high-yield savings, CDs, and cash accounts, grouped with subtotals and tracked in one file.

Credit cards

Credit Cards

Card accounts presented as liabilities, with balances stated as amounts owed and available credit rather than as assets.

Register

Transaction Register

A sortable, filterable register with categories, payees, memos, tags, and saved views. Free-text search across every field.

Transfers

Transfers

Transfers between your own accounts are matched into a single logical movement, and are excluded from spending, budget, and cash-flow totals. Possible unmatched transfers are surfaced for review.

Splits

Splits and Tags

Split a single transaction across multiple categories, and tag transactions for reporting. Splits must balance to the transaction total.

Reconcile

Reconciliation

Clear transactions against a statement balance and mark them reconciled. Duplicate detection compares what the file says against what the ledger holds, so re-importing does not double up.

Planning

Budget

Budgets

Budgets by category and period, with planned versus actual as transactions land. Transfers and asset purchases are excluded from budget totals.

Cash flow

Cash Flow

Income and expenses by month, with recurring items projected forward across a configurable window to show an upcoming shortfall before it occurs.

Goals

Goals

Savings and payoff goals tracked against real account balances, with progress derived from the ledger rather than entered by hand.

Bills

Bills and Income

Recurring bills, subscriptions, and expected income, with due dates, frequency, and variability. Scheduled items feed the cash-flow projection.

Reminders

Reminders

Due-date reminders for scheduled items, surfaced on the overview alongside anything else needing attention.

Subscriptions

Subscription Tracking

Recurring charges identified from your own transaction history, so ongoing subscriptions are visible in one list.

Investments and Crypto

Portfolio

Portfolio and Holdings

Holdings by account and security, valued at the most recent price on record. Positions are never carried negative; a sale beyond what the ledger can substantiate is named rather than absorbed.

Securities

Securities

Stocks, ETFs, bonds, mutual funds, money-market sweep funds, and options, each valued according to its own rules rather than a single generic formula.

Allocation

Cost Basis and Lots

Per-lot cost basis with FIFO matching by trade date, so statements imported newest-first do not close a lot before it opened. Unknown basis is reported as unknown, never as zero.

Crypto

Crypto

Wallets and exchange accounts with per-asset holdings, swaps recorded as single events, and network fees treated as real costs. Suspected spam or airdrop tokens are flagged and excluded from portfolio value.

Wallets

Wallet Transfers

Movements between your own wallets are matched into a single transfer where the evidence supports it, and surfaced for review where it does not.

Performance

Performance

Realized and unrealized gains computed from the same per-lot records used for tax reporting, so the two cannot disagree.

Reporting and Analysis

Reports

Report Library

Spending by category and payee, income and expenses, monthly cash flow, account balances, transaction detail, and budget versus actual. Reports can be favorited for quick access.

Net worth

Net Worth

Assets against liabilities, with history over time and a breakdown by account group.

Tax

Tax Reporting

Realized capital gains one line per lot, long-term and short-term separated for Form 8949, with retirement accounts excluded from taxable totals. Tax-relevant category summaries and per-lot detail.

Drill down

Drill-Through

Every figure traces to the transactions behind it. Clicking a total or a row opens exactly those records, rather than re-deriving an approximation of what should be behind the number.

Export

Export and Print

Any report exports to CSV or JSON, or prints. Exported CSV is sanitized so spreadsheet formula injection is not possible.

Documents

Document Vault

Statements, receipts, and tax documents attached to the accounts and transactions they relate to, stored locally with the ledger.

Data and Safety

Local Storage

The ledger, the imported originals, and any attached documents are stored in a file on your machine. There is no cloud sync and no hosted account.

Backup and Restore

Back up the data file on demand and restore it. Backup status is shown in the application so a long gap since the last backup is visible.

Decimal Arithmetic

Money is stored and computed as exact decimals rather than floating point, and each adapter normalizes to one internal sign convention on import.

Provenance

Every imported field records where it came from: the source field, the original text, the transformation applied, and any warnings raised along the way.

Your Edits Are Preserved

Categories, memos, tags, payee overrides, and reconciliation status are yours. A later import may propose a revision but will not overwrite them without approval.

Rollback

Each import can be rolled back as a unit. If a rollback would discard work you have done since, the app says so rather than proceeding.

Edition Comparison

Both editions are built from a single codebase and share the same import engine, duplicate detection, validation, and ledger safety. The difference is breadth of reporting and analysis, not accuracy.
