What is Guided Tour?
Guided Tour is a structured survey mode where you define waypoints on your floor plan, then walk through them in order. It ensures complete, systematic coverage of your space instead of ad-hoc sampling. Every waypoint captures a Wi-Fi measurement at a known location, producing consistent and repeatable survey data.
Setting Up a Tour
- Open Wi-Fi Survey and import your floor plan.
- Calibrate the floor plan (required for Auto Grid — see the calibration article).
- Click Guided Tour in the toolbar.
- Either manually click waypoints on the map, or click Auto Grid and enter spacing in meters (e.g., 3m for detailed coverage, 5m for a quick overview).
Auto Grid
Auto Grid generates evenly-spaced waypoints across your floor plan based on your calibration. A 3-meter grid gives thorough coverage for most offices. The grid respects the floor plan boundaries, so waypoints are only placed within the drawn area.
Running the Tour
- Click Start Tour — the first waypoint highlights with a pulse animation.
- Walk to the highlighted waypoint.
- Click near the waypoint (or click Next) — a sample is captured and the next waypoint highlights.
- Use Skip to bypass inaccessible points (locked rooms, etc.).
- The progress bar shows your completion percentage.
Tour States
A tour moves through four states:
- Editing — adding or removing waypoints
- Ready — waypoints are set, ready to begin
- Running — walking the route and capturing samples
- Complete — all waypoints have been sampled or skipped
Persistence
Waypoints are saved with the survey file. However, tour progress resets when you reload, so plan to complete the walk in one session.
Tips
- Plan your walking route before starting — order waypoints to minimize backtracking.
- A 3m grid in a 1,000 sq ft office gives roughly 30 waypoints, taking about 10–15 minutes to walk.
- Start near the entrance and work systematically toward the far end of the space.
