What is a Wi-Fi survey?
A Wi-Fi site survey maps wireless signal coverage across a physical space. Walk through the space, drop signal samples at your location on a floor plan, and RockWiFi Pro builds a heatmap showing coverage quality everywhere.
Step 1: Open Wi-Fi Survey
Click Wi-Fi Survey in the sidebar. You'll see the survey canvas — a blank workspace ready for your floor plan.
Step 2: Import a floor plan
Click Import Floor Plan and select an image (PNG, JPG, BMP). This becomes your survey background. You can also use an OpenStreetMap capture for outdoor surveys.
Step 3: Calibrate
Click Calibrate, then click two points on the map whose real-world distance you know (e.g., a hallway length). Enter the distance in meters. This lets the app calculate accurate coverage areas and cluster nearby samples.

Step 4: Drop samples
Walk to a location, click that spot on the floor plan. RockWiFi Pro captures your current Wi-Fi signal strength and all visible APs at that point. The sample appears as a colored dot.
Step 5: Build coverage
Take 15–30 samples across the space. Cover corners, hallways, and problem areas. More samples = more accurate heatmap. If you click near an existing sample (within ~1.5m), the readings are merged for better accuracy.
Step 6: View the heatmap
The heatmap renders automatically using Kriging interpolation. Colors range from red (weak signal) through yellow to green (strong signal). Switch between layers:
- Signal Strength
- Sample Density
- SNR
- Channel Overlap
- AP Count

Step 7: Save and export
Save the survey for later review. Export an HTML report for clients or a CSV of raw sample data.
Tips
- Survey during normal business hours to capture real interference.
- Walk at a normal pace.
- Include areas behind walls and in stairwells.
- Run UltraScan first to understand the environment.
