Transfers Between Accounts

RockSolid Money™ Support

Moving money between your own accounts — checking to savings, checking to a credit-card payment — is one movement, not an expense in one place and income in another. RockSolid Money records it that way.

Recording a transfer

Use + New > Transfer (top right). Pick the From account, the To account, the amount, and the date. The application creates a linked pair: one side out, one side in, tied together so they can never drift apart or be double-counted.

Paying a credit card is a transfer

A card payment from checking reduces your cash and reduces what you owe — net worth doesn't change, and no spending happened (the spending happened when you used the card). Recording it as a transfer keeps the budget and the spending reports honest.

Transfers and your reports

Because both sides are linked, transfers don't inflate income or spending totals. The cash-flow forecast sees the balance effect on each account correctly.

Imported transfers

When both sides arrive from imports (the checking file shows the payment out, the card file shows it in), they arrive as two transactions — categorize them as the transfer they are rather than as spending and income. Crypto wallet-to-wallet moves have their own matching machinery — see Crypto Wallets and Exchanges.
