Microsoft Store Installation
Last updated: April 2026
Installing RockTerm
RockTerm is distributed exclusively through the Microsoft Store. To install:
- Open the Microsoft Store app on your Windows 10 or Windows 11 machine.
- Search for RockTerm in the search bar.
- Select RockTerm from the search results. Verify the publisher is listed as Rock River Research, LLC.
- Click Install to install the full version, or click Free Trial to start a time-limited trial with full functionality.
- Wait for the download and installation to complete. RockTerm will appear in your Start menu and can be pinned to your taskbar.
You can also install directly via a web browser by navigating to the RockTerm listing on the Microsoft Store website and clicking Get in Store app.
If you are in a managed enterprise environment where the Microsoft Store is disabled, contact your IT administrator. They can deploy RockTerm through the Microsoft Store for Business or Intune.
Repairing RockTerm
If RockTerm is not launching correctly, crashing on startup, or behaving unexpectedly, try repairing the installation before reinstalling. The repair process re-verifies the application files without affecting your saved connections or settings.
- Open Windows Settings (
Win+I). - Go to Apps > Installed apps (on Windows 11) or Apps > Apps & features (on Windows 10).
- Find RockTerm in the list. Click the three-dot menu (or click on the app) and select Advanced options.
- Scroll down to the Reset section and click Repair.
- Wait for the repair to complete (a checkmark will appear when done).
- Launch RockTerm and verify the issue is resolved.
Repairing does not delete your saved connections, settings, or logs.
Resetting RockTerm
If repairing does not resolve the issue, you can reset the application. Warning: resetting deletes all application data, including:
- Saved connections and connection folders
- Application settings and preferences
- Custom keyboard shortcuts
- Color scheme customizations
- Log files
Before resetting, back up your connections. In RockTerm, open the Connection Manager (Ctrl+Shift+N) and use Export to save your connections to a file. You can import them again after the reset.
To reset:
- Open Windows Settings (
Win+I). - Go to Apps > Installed apps and find RockTerm.
- Click Advanced options.
- Scroll down and click Reset.
- Confirm the reset when prompted.
- Launch RockTerm. It will start as if freshly installed.
Reinstalling RockTerm
If both repair and reset fail to resolve your issue, perform a clean reinstall:
- Open Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find RockTerm, click the three-dot menu, and select Uninstall.
- Confirm the uninstallation and wait for it to complete.
- Restart your computer (recommended but not always required).
- Open the Microsoft Store and install RockTerm again by searching for it or visiting your Library (if previously purchased, it will show as owned).
After reinstalling, import your backed-up connections via the Connection Manager.
Sideloading Not Supported
RockTerm does not support sideloading or installation from .msix, .appx, or .exe files obtained outside the Microsoft Store. The application is code-signed and distributed exclusively through the Store to ensure integrity, automatic updates, and license management.
If you encounter a RockTerm installer being distributed outside of the Microsoft Store, do not install it. It is not an official release and may be malicious. Report it to info@rockriverresearch.com.
Troubleshooting Installation Failures
If the Microsoft Store fails to install or update RockTerm, try the following:
- Check your internet connection. The Store requires an active connection to download apps.
- Sign in to your Microsoft account. The Store may require authentication for paid apps and trial activations.
- Clear the Store cache. Press
Win+R, typewsreset.exe, and press Enter. This clears the Store cache and may resolve download errors. - Check for Windows updates. Some Store issues are resolved by installing pending Windows updates via Settings > Windows Update.
- Check disk space. Ensure you have sufficient free space on the drive where apps are installed (typically
C:).
